What’s A Retro Arcade?

Let’s Play!

Our Retro Arcade events are a curated mix of classic and modern home video game consoles celebrating the art of gaming! Every event is unique, some focusing on a theme, others devoted strictly to free play.

Up to 30 consoles are brought out from the Alternative Gallery’s collection for interactive events held at the Alternative Gallery as well as various off-site locations!

These events are FREE to the public!

Past events have been held at: Bethlehem Area Public Library, 2nd & Charles, Allentown Brew Works, just to name a few!

Era Appropriate

Each console is paired with a television from the era that console was released.

This offers a unique playing experience of what it was like to play those consoles when they first came out. It’’s a form of preservation that allows younger generations to have an experience they wouldn’t be able to get otherwise.

Communal Events

It’s important to take a moment out of the grind of life to enjoy some PLAY TIME!

A Retro Arcade is a great way for folks of all ages to kick back and enjoy themselves! It’s not just the kids who enjoy these events, sometimes the parents and adults are the ones having the most fun!

Indie Games & Homebrew

Video games are a form of art and there are some amazing creators out there!

We think it’s super important to highlight the unique games indie creators are putting out. So many great hidden gems out there that we try to shine a spotlight on!

  • Each set-up includes a console and television, as well as a variety of games.

  • We have every major console from the early 80s through modern times. A complete list is available upon request.

  • Our game library is quite extensive and new titles are added frequently. We try to cover all the major games as well as lesser known titles and indie games. Please inquire about any specific game requests you might have.

  • Our events are more focused on home video consoles, and we don’t typically offer handheld consoles for our Retro Arcade events.

  • We do not currently own any arcade machines, but for special events we team up arcade owners bring out actual arcade and/or pinball machines.

  • We can book up to 12 months in advance. We recommend booking at least one month out, but we can sometimes accommodate last minute requests.

  • The gallery is available for a variety of events, including private events and Retro Arcades. There is an additional fee to host at the gallery, please inquire about your event for a quote.

  • We host our Retro Arcades randomly. Sometimes we host them at the gallery, other times we host them at off-site locations.
